Before entering politics he was Chief Economist at Shell, and later headed a programme on globalisation at Chatham House. As a Liberal Democrat MP for Twickenham he became particularly prominent during the 2007–08 global financial crisis, when his warnings about instability in the banking system and his critiques of government policy attracted national attention.\nSir Vince went on to serve as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills from 2010 to 2015 and later as Leader of the Liberal Democrats from 2017 to 2019. Known for combining rigorous economic analysis with practical political experience, he has written extensively on globalisation, economics and the challenges facing modern democracies.
