Join us in the spectacular setting of Salisbury Cathedral as Lord Hague explores how Britain’s greatest leaders have shaped his thinking and can inspire solutions to today’s challenges.\nDate: Thursday 9 July\nTime: 2.00pm\nVenue: Salisbury Cathedral\nLord Hague rose from a childhood in South Yorkshire to become one of Britain’s most prominent political figures, serving as Leader of the Conservative Party and later as Foreign Secretary. Since leaving frontline politics he has built an influential career across business, writing, diplomacy and international charitable work, culminating in his election in 2024 as Chancellor of the University of Oxford.\nFollowing the lecture, Lord Hague will be joined in conversation by Sir Anthony Seldon, one of Britain’s leading contemporary historians and political biographers. Their discussion will explore themes arising from the lecture, drawing connections between political leadership past and present. On arrival at Salisbury Cathedral, please have your ticket ready to present to our welcome team.\nThe lecture will end at approximately 3.45pm, after which guests holding Lecture and Tea or Premium tickets are invited to Arundells for afternoon tea.\nTea will be served from 3.45pm to 5.45pm, after which time the house and garden will close for a separate event.\nArundells is located just across from the Cathedral on West Walk. Stewards will be on hand to direct you.\n\nTravel and Parking\nBy Train\nSalisbury has direct rail links with London, Southampton, Bath and the West Country.\nSalisbury railway station is approximately a 15-minute walk from the Cathedral.\nBy Bike or On Foot\nCycle parking is available in the Cathedral Close and in the city centre.\nCar Parking\nThe nearest public car parks are:\n– Lush House Car Park (SP2 7TD)\n– Old George Mall Car Park (SP1 2PH)\nBoth are approximately five minutes’ walk from the Cathedral Close.\nVery limited parking is available within the Cathedral Close at a fixed cost of £10 for the day, including disabled parking spaces. Motorcycle parking costs £1.\nPlease note: there is no parking available at Arundells.\nPark and Ride services operate on the main routes into Salisbury.\n\nAccessibility\nThere is level access from the Cathedral’s main entrance.\nReserved accessible seating will be available. Please speak to a steward if you require assistance.\nAll seating is on a flat floor and is not tiered.\nThe Cathedral’s hearing loop system will be active throughout the event.\n\nEntry, Security and Conditions of Entry\nPlease do not bring large bags (such as rucksacks, holdalls or suitcases), as these will not be permitted inside the Cathedral.
