SUMMARY:Exhibition: Seen in the Trees – Tansy Lee Moir
DESCRIPTION:Image: ‘Threshold’ 2026\nMixed media on wood panel, 50x50cm\nTansy Lee Moir’s work is inspired by trees and how their history shapes them: to her, old trees are time made wood.\nShe creates powerful and evocative drawings, paintings and monoprints using charcoal and natural pigments. She forages for images in wooded locations around Scotland and her native Peak District, capturing the essence and energy of trees in charcoal drawings. In the studio she transforms these into bodies of work around themes which chime with her own experiences.\nOld trees can be powerful symbols of struggle, resilience, inventiveness and endurance, and she draws to find out what looking at trees can tell us about their lives and ours too. Although rooted in observation, her work blurs the boundaries between human and more-than-human, hinting at figure, wood and water but always inviting the viewer to make their own meaning.\nBorn in Derbyshire and based in Edinburgh, Tansy Lee Moir has been perfecting her charcoal drawing techniques for the last 15 years. After a rewarding career in Community Arts, Learning and Development, she now works full-time as an artist and educator, exhibiting and teaching across the UK.\nTansy has developed close connections and collaborative projects with organisations and individuals who share her passion for our ancient tree heritage. Since 2011 Tansy has had many solo and group shows. She exhibits regularly across the UK and her work is in private collections around the UK, Europe and the USA. This exhibition at Arundells will be Tansy’s eighth solo show.\nSee more of Tansy’s work on her website.
