SUMMARY:Templars: The Knights Who Made Britain
DESCRIPTION:THE VENUE FOR THIS EVENT HAS CHANGED, DUE TO DEMAND THE TALK WILL NOW TAKE PLACE AT SALISBURY MUSEUM\nThis event has sold out, email info@arundells.org ( mailto:info@arundells.org ) to be added to a waiting list\nThe Knights Templar are among the most famous and misunderstood figures of the medieval world. Popular culture has portrayed them as warriors, fanatics and keepers of dark secrets, but the reality is far more fascinating. In this engaging talk, based on his acclaimed book Templars: The Knights Who Made Britain, Dr Steve Tibble reveals how the Templars played a crucial role in shaping medieval Britain. Far more than soldiers, they were diplomats, financiers, administrators and political influencers whose activities helped lay the foundations of the English state. Drawing on the latest historical research, Steve separates myth from reality and uncovers the remarkable story of an organisation whose influence extended far beyond the battlefield.\n\nDr Steve Tibble is a graduate of Cambridge and London Universities and holds honorary positions at Royal Holloway, University of London and the University of Kent. He is one of the leading historians working on the Crusades and medieval military history, and has contributed to both The Oxford Illustrated History of the Crusades and The Cambridge History of the Crusades. His books include The Crusader Armies, The Crusader Strategy, Templars: The Knights Who Made Britain, and Crusader Criminals: The Knights Who Went Rogue in the Holy Land. Known for making complex scholarship accessible and entertaining, Steve is a popular speaker who brings the medieval world vividly to life for modern audiences.\nCopies of Steve’s books, including his latest work, ‘Assassins and Templars: A Battle in Myth and Blood’, will be available for purchase at the event, with an opportunity to have books signed by the author.\nDate: Friday 25 September\nTime: Doors from 18.30, talk begins 19.00\nWhere: The Salisbury Museum, The King’s House, 65 The Close, Salisbury, SP1 2EN\nTickets: £18\nAll tickets are non-refundable but you are very welcome to pass them on to friends or family if you are unable to attend.\n
