Clay Creations Workshop with Terry Kemp

Spend a few hours enjoying the delight of creating pots, shapes and sculptures using air drying clay. Who knows, you may even be able to tick a home made Christmas present off the list.

This clay is a great material responding to moulding, throwing, coiling and forming work. The clay has fibres within it that hold it together when drying. This means that during only one day pieces can be created that can be allowed to dry then taken home by the workshop participants to decorate with paints or varnish.

The workshop will give everyone the opportunity of the joy of using the clay, learning about the modelling or constructing of pieces just as Grayson Perry or Bernard Leach would. Though this workshop will not take you through the whole ceramic process of shaping, glazing and firing, the experience of using and understanding the material is guaranteed to be fun and, for some, addictive!

All materials and tools will be provided but please try and bring the following:

  • The clay is safe but can quickly dry the skin on your hands.  Please therefore come with some hand cream or protective barrier cream.
  • Protect your clothes wear an apron or smock.
  • Please bring a towel and maybe some rags or two. The towel for washing your hands and the rags to wipe your hands as we progress along the day.
  • You will need a cardboard box to take home your works of art.

Soooooooo…….. That’s it apart from the requirement to come with a smile to have a lot of creative fun.
