Waterloo Uncovered – talk by Mark Evans

The Fight for Hougoumont Farm – How the archaeology has changed what we know about this pivotal moment in the Battle of Waterloo

Waterloo Uncovered is a registered UK charity that combines a world-class archaeology project on the battlefield of Waterloo with a support program for veterans and the military community. Working in partnership with some of Europe’s top universities, and through the unique perspective of a team comprised of archaeologists, veterans, and serving soldiers, Waterloo Uncovered aims to understand war and its impact on people — and to educate the public about it.

The Battle of Waterloo is situated on the edge of Modern History: few other battles were recorded in such detail by those eyewitnesses who survived, in letters, journals, memoirs and monologues; few battles have freighted bookshelves with such a cargo of subsequent histories and reinterpretations, which continue to be produced to this day. What new things remain to be said, therefore? What discoveries are still to be made?

Join us to find out about some of the exciting discoveries that have been made on the battlefield in Belgium. You’ll even get the chance to look at some artefacts up close.
