“What Can History Teach Us About Today’s Challenges?”
The Sir Edward Heath Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce that The Rt Hon The Lord Hague of Richmond will deliver the 2026 Edward Heath Annual Lecture on Thursday 9 July in the magnificent setting of Salisbury Cathedral.
In a major public address titled What Can History Teach Us About Today’s Challenges? Learning from Pitt the Younger, Wilberforce and Other Great British Leaders, Lord Hague will explore how the achievements and character of Britain’s most influential statesmen can illuminate the dilemmas facing the country today.
Lord Hague’s distinguished career has spanned politics, diplomacy, business and international charitable work. Rising from his roots in South Yorkshire, he became one of Britain’s most recognisable political figures, serving as Leader of the Conservative Party and later as Foreign Secretary. Since stepping back from frontline politics, he has become a prominent commentator, author and advocate for global causes. In 2024 he was elected Chancellor of the University of Oxford, further cementing his role as a leading voice in public life.
