John F. Kennedy and Winston Churchill: How an Obsession Defined a Presidency
Join historian and author Joel Nelson as he discusses his recently published book, Kennedy’s Only Hero, a fascinating exploration of John F. Kennedy’s lifelong admiration for Winston Churchill. Drawing on extensive archival research, Nelson reveals how Churchill’s writings, ideas and example influenced Kennedy’s political outlook, leadership style and approach to public life. Offering a fresh perspective on two of the twentieth century’s most iconic statesmen, this talk uncovers a remarkable story of admiration, ambition and influence. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event, with an opportunity to have them signed by the author.
Joel Nelson is a British writer and historian. He has worked as an advisor to Rory Stewart, an editor at Foreign Affairs, and a Director of European Policy at an AI think-tank in Washington, D.C. He has a first-class honours degree in History from the University of Oxford, an MPhil from the University of Cambridge, and he was a Kennedy Scholar at Harvard. Kennedy’s Only Hero is his first book.
