The Jade Bonsai trees also known as Portulacaria Afra or Crassula ovata are succulent plants that are popular in the art of bonsai. The tree that is in the house is a replica of one of these trees, being made from bronze and jade, unlike living bonsai, crystal bonsai trees are decorative sculptures crafted from wire metal and various types of crystals and gemstones. In this case it is jade gemstone tree and a bronze trunk.
Crystal bonsai trees draw inspiration from the traditional Japanese art of bonsai and the broader practise of using crystals for their aesthetic and metaphysical properties, these trees are not living plants but rather artistic representations of trees, designed to emulate the intricate forms of natural bonsai. The art of Bonsai dates back thousands of years, with each cultivated tree meaning something unique to the crafter.
Crystal bonsais are believed to bring positive energy into the home or workspace and are considered more than just decorative items. Each crystal type is usually chosen for its colour, shape or size and it is a very meticulous and professional task to make one, similar examples are just as intricate. The stone used in the tree Heath possessed is jade, jade symbolises “harmony, eternity and virtue.” However, in Japan, which is likely where it was made, it symbolises wealth and power, which could be the reason Heath was gifted it.
