Free Family Music Activity Day

Need to Know:

  • FREE ENTRY to house and gardens all day.
  • All activities are completely free to enjoy.
  • All children must be accompanied by an adult for all activities.

Under Fives Music Session

Come and join multi-instrumentalist Emily Askew for a fun packed music session. There will be singing, signing, shakers and dancing as well as Emily using a huge array of her live instruments including violin, bagpipes, crumhorn, recorders, ukulele, harp and accordion! Running time: 45 minutes.

Family Ceilidh

A Ceilidh/Barn dance for all ages! This is a social event for everybody to join in whatever your age or experience – no matter if you have never danced before. Emily the caller will will guide you through the moves and then we’ll have fun dancing to some fantastic folk music from the UK and beyond. Running time: 45 minutes.

Summer Soundscapes

Local songwriter and performer Louise Jordan invites you to compose a summer soundscape, drawing inspiration from the gardens at Arundells. Listen to some existing pieces of music and contribute your own ideas to a build a unique collaborative composition with other participants. You can bring an instrument if you like but it’s not necessary in order to take part. Running time: 45 minutes.

JUMP

Hear amazing sounds of buzzing bugs and croaking creatures woven into exciting music played live on the clarinet. Karen Wimhurst takes us on a musical journey into the secret world of nature, where you’ll meet crickets, grasshoppers, and even toads through sound! Beautiful, vibrant videos, drawing on close up images of the amazing creatures heard in the music and created by multi-media artist Sonia Killmann, will accompany the performance. Running time: 45 minutes.

Sea Shanties with The Wareham Whalers

The Wareham Whalers have been singing shanties and songs of the sea for 20 years. Join them for a workshop where they’ll explain the origins of shanties and how they were used by sailing crews. They’ll also be giving a performance in the garden next to Arundells’ very own shipwreck! Running time: 45 minutes.

All-Day Craft Tent

Open all day, our music craft tent offers a fun drop-in activity for kids to make musical crafts between workshops.

Steinway Sounds Throughout the Day!

Enjoy the beautiful sounds of Sir Edward Heath’s Steinway piano, featuring guest performers throughout the day. Visitors will also have the opportunity to play.
