Gyles Brandreth & Iain Dale Return to Broadstairs for a Special Double Bill
National treasure Gyles Brandreth and acclaimed broadcaster Iain Dale return to the Sarah Thorne Theatre, Broadstairs, for a unique afternoon and evening of conversation, politics, history and storytelling.
2.30pm: Craig Mackinlay in Conversation

Former South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay will be interviewed by Gyles Brandreth in the style of Gyles’ hugely successful Rosebud podcast, exploring Craig’s earliest memories, influences and formative experiences.
In September 2023, Craig was struck by a rapidly progressing case of sepsis and was placed into an induced coma for 16 days. Against the odds, he survived, but to save his life both his arms and legs had to be amputated. Following extensive rehabilitation and the fitting of prosthetic limbs, he became known as Britain’s “first bionic MP”.
When he returned to the House of Commons in May 2024, shortly before Parliament dissolved for the General Election, he received a rare standing ovation from MPs across all parties. Today, he continues his public service as a member of the House of Lords.
Following this fascinating Rosebud-style interview, Iain Dale will join Craig to discuss the current political landscape and the issues shaping Britain today.
5.30pm: Gyles & Iain in a Rare Mirror Interview
The evening session features a rare and entertaining “mirror interview”.
First, Iain Dale interviews Gyles Brandreth, discussing his close knowledge of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as well as A. A. Milne and the centenary celebrations of Winnie-the-Pooh.
Then the tables are turned as Gyles interviews Iain Dale about his recently published autobiography, packed with stories, insights and encounters from decades at the heart of British public life. If you dislike name-dropping, this may not be the event for you!

Broadstairs and Sir Edward Heath
Broadstairs held a special place in the heart of Sir Edward Heath. Born in the town in 1916, he spent his childhood there and continued visiting family long into adult life. It was in Broadstairs that he first discovered sailing, developing a passion that would lead him to become a world-class competitive yachtsman. Heath often remarked that the air in Broadstairs was the finest in the world, and he remains rightly celebrated as one of the town’s most distinguished sons.
