HMS Pinafore is one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most beloved operas. It tells of forbidden love across different social classes and the troubles that must be overcome before our hero and heroine can be together. If you like your operas with a bit of tongue-in-cheek humour, we think you’ll love HMS Pinafore.

Josephine is the captain’s daughter and has fallen for lowly sailor Ralph. Yet her father has other ideas – he has promised her to Sir Joseph Porter, the First Lord of the Admiralty. Who she will end up with is anyone’s bet!

Also known as The Lass that Loved a Sailor, this timeless classic opera comes with a twist. The action takes place on the quarterdeck of HMS Pinafore, at anchor off Portsmouth harbour.

Will love prevail? Climb aboard to find out!

Performed by Opera Anywhere who make it their mission to create accessible, innovative and entertaining opera for all ages. Beginning life on a specially erected stage in their Oxfordshire village they perform operas at unique outdoor venues and theatres across England and Northern Ireland and even on punts on the River Thames!

Held in the stunning Arundells garden in the shadow of Salisbury Cathedral. Come early and enjoy a wander around the garden or explore in the interval.
