Talk: Hidden Wiltshire – The Secrets of the Deverill Valley

Glyn Coy runs the Hidden Wiltshire project, which encourages people to explore the hidden parts of the Wiltshire landscape, uncovering the past and finding out about local history.

After a fascinating talk in 2024, Glyn returns to Arundells to share some more of Wiltshire’s hidden gems. This time Glyn will be delving into the rich and often overlooked history of the Deverill Valley, one of Wiltshire’s most scenic hidden gems.

He will take you on a journey through time, revealing incredible archaeological discoveries right here in our county. Prepare to be amazed by evidence of Neolithic burial chambers, the remnants of Iron Age villages, and even the foundations of a Roman temple. Discover the story of an enormous Roman Villa, only unearthed in recent years, hinting at the significant Roman presence in the valley. He’ll also explore important artefacts from the area, including the remarkable Kingston Deverill Hoard, many of which are proudly displayed in Salisbury Museum.

Illustrated with a stunning collection of photographs showcasing the beauty and historical significance of the Deverill Valley, this talk promises to be an engaging and insightful exploration of Wiltshire’s hidden past, right on our doorstep. Don’t miss this opportunity to uncover the secrets of this captivating valley!
