This year’s Jazz in the Garden event drew a wonderful crowd of music lovers eager to enjoy an evening of sunshine, picnics and live music. Everyone arrived in great spirits and ready to make the most of a summer evening at Arundells.
The weather in the days leading up to the event had been rather grey and damp, but Friday brought welcome sunshine to the garden and lifted everyone’s mood. We were especially pleased that guests didn’t have to drag their picnics and folding chairs through mud and rain to reach their spot on the lawn.
The array of picnics on display was impressive, with several groups bringing traditional wicker hampers packed full of treats. The gardens soon filled with the sound of conversation as friends and families settled in for the evening.
Tim Eyles and his band proved to be both outstanding musicians and engaging entertainers. Alongside a superb programme of jazz standards and favourites, they kept the audience smiling with a steady stream of groan-worthy jokes between numbers.
One particularly memorable moment came when the band performed a Latin-infused rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for one of our volunteer gardeners, who was celebrating a milestone birthday over the weekend.
Our sincere thanks go to local law firm Parker Bullen, who kindly sponsored the event for a second consecutive year. We are extremely grateful for their continued support, which helps make events such as these possible.
Parker Bullen’s guests thoroughly enjoyed the evening, along with the excellent food, drink and entertainment on offer.
We are already looking forward to the rest of this year’s programme of outdoor music and theatre. The season continues on Saturday 11 July with This Is My Theatre’s production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
