On Friday 25th July, we were delighted to welcome the brilliant Illyria Theatre Company to Arundells for the very first time, with their sparkling outdoor production of Pride and Prejudice.
Set against the lush backdrop of our garden — still looking impressive despite the recent dry spell — and under clear, golden skies, the evening was made for theatre. Illyria embraced the comic potential of Austen’s classic, playing up the absurdities of the characters with joyful silliness and sharp timing. The result was a performance full of laughter, warmth and good humour.
From Mrs Bennet’s exaggerated matchmaking antics to Mr Collins’ wonderfully awkward proposals, the audience was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. Illyria’s signature blend of fast-paced action, clever staging, and boundless energy was a perfect match for our garden setting.
We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a memorable night — and to John Rose Photography for capturing some brilliant moments from the show (scroll down to view a few highlights).
Here’s to many more evenings of theatre in the garden!
