For one afternoon only, Salisbury audiences can experience the magic of silent cinema exactly as it was meant to be seen and heard. On Sunday 19 October, Underground (a beautifully restored 1928 British classic) will be screened at St John’s Place, Bemerton, with live piano accompaniment.

Directed by Anthony Asquith, Underground tells the interwoven stories of Londoners whose lives and loves collide on the city’s bustling Underground network. A striking mix of romance, drama and social observation, it offers a vivid portrait of 1920s London and is considered one of the finest works of early British cinema.

Providing the live soundtrack will be acclaimed pianist Andrew Harrison-King, who has been bringing silent films to life for over a decade. His expressive playing adds power and immediacy, transporting audiences back to the golden age of film.

“This is a rare opportunity to see a silent film as it was originally experienced, on the big screen, with live music,” said Luke Futcher of Arundells. “It’s going to be an unforgettable afternoon.”
