Britain & the Space Race – Talk by Lord David Willetts

Did you know that the UK builds more satellites than anywhere else outside of California? 🛰

With a number of sites vying to be the first to launch into space from UK shores, join Lord Willetts to find out what the future holds for Britain and the Space Race.…

Former Minister for Universities and Science under David Cameron, Lord Willetts took up the role of Chair of The UK Space Agency in April 2022.  This appointment followed the publication of the UK’s first ever National Space Strategy, which set out the UK’s vision and goals for the sector.

“Satellites and space activities deliver navigation, weather forecasting, power grid monitoring, financial transactions, and better public services. Satellites also support television services to millions of UK households as well as other digital communications.” National Space Strategy, Feb 2022

The space sector in the UK is worth over £16.4 billion per year and employs over 45,000 people. In addition, satellites underpin £360 billion per year of wider economic activity.
