Exhibition – Travels: People and Places
Runs from May until end of July 2024
‘Travels: People and Places’, will explore how Edward Heath’s passion for travel shaped the eclectic collection at Arundells.
The exhibition will also consider how the influence that travel had on Heath’s world view provided the background to the policies that he pursued in his political career.
From his first school trip to Paris in 1926 until the end of his life, Heath had an insatiable curiosity to experience the world at first hand. Travel connected Heath’s personal and political lives. His work as a statesman, soldier and sailor presented him with endless opportunities to build his art collection. The collection at Arundells contains art, memorabilia and personal items from across the globe.
Displays in the house and The Studio will shed new light on collection highlights and objects not usually on show, accompanied by Heath’s reminiscences and archive photographs of what he describes as “the incidents good fortune has brought me by being in interesting places at eventful times.”
